What is CBD?2018-10-01T11:45:32+00:00

CBD is the abbreviation for cannabidiol. Cannabidiol is one of over 480 active ingredients contained in cannabis. Of these 480 active ingredients, around 80 are found only in the cannabis plant. These 80 substances are therefore called cannabinoids. “-Oid” in the sense of the Greek suffix “similar, coming from”. Of these 80 cannabinoids, around 8 are currently medically relevant. The most famous cannabinoid is THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), which by now is the second-most famous cannabidiol (CBD). At the same time, it is also the second most frequent cannabidiol in the cannabis plant, which is also present in the industrial hemp Cannabis sativa L. In contrast to THC, CBD does not have an intoxicating effect, so it doesn’t make you high.

What is the difference between CBD and CBDa?2018-10-16T17:35:39+00:00

CBDA is the acid precursor of CBD. As cannabis grows, it produces CBDA, not CBD. These cannabinoids in their acidic form are often considered “inactive”. When cannabis is heated, for example by cooking or steaming, it initiates a process known as decarboxylation. Decarboxylation transforms CBDA into CBD. Both, CBDA and CBD are not psychoactive, which means that you will not get “high” from them. Check out the CBD vs CBDA blog post from our R&D expert Philip Schmiedhofer who looks at the subject from a scientific standpoint.

Is CBD legal? What is the current legal situation regarding CBD in Austria and Germany? Why are some CBD products completely THC-free while others contain a residue of <0.2% THC or <0.3% THC, respectively?2018-09-17T11:36:46+00:00

This is a legitimate question. The legal amount of THC residue in CBD products is determined by the legislator. In Austria, the legal limit for THC in CBD products is a maximum of 0.3%, in Germany and the EU <0.2% and in Switzerland <1%. CBD products with a THC residue that is within the respective limit are legal and therefore freely available. The specified THC content is so low that the psychoactive properties are attenuated or neutralized by the higher-dose CBD. Intoxicating effects can therefore be excluded.

The risk of abuse as an addictive substance is also ruled out. It has been proven many times over that CBD is not addictive; on the contrary, there are medical studies suggesting that CBD is helpful to quit nicotine, THC or other opiates.

How should CBD products be stored? What is the shelf life for CBD products?2018-12-14T12:08:30+00:00

cannhelp products should be kept closed, in a dark and cool room and out of reach for children. Please do not place the product in the freezer and avoid storage in places with direct sunshine, heat or moisture. Before use, CBD oils and Aqua CBD should be shaken well, so that the ingredients are mixed together. The shelf life of our products is 1-2 years and is indicated on the packaging.

Why can color or consistency of CBD products vary or change over time?2018-09-17T11:43:32+00:00

Our products are 100% natural and therefore subject to minor variations in ingredients, texture, taste and color. It often helps to shake the product before use, so that all ingredients are well mixed together. Storage and durability have an influence on color and consistency as well. Please follow our storage recommendations and pay attention to the shelf life noted on the products.

Are your CBD oils natural or synthetic?2018-10-01T12:43:56+00:00

Our CBD oils are of pure, natural origin and therefore not contaminated with any synthetic chemicals. In addition to CBD, they also contain a wide range of other natural cannabinoids, as well as terpenes, flavonoids, antioxidants and other phytochemicals. We use the most gentle and effective way to extract plant material: CO2 extraction. CO2 as solvent evaporates completely leaving plat ingredients unchanged. What remains is a 100% residue-free industrial hemp extract.

What is the difference between water-based CBD and CBD oils?2018-10-16T17:37:12+00:00

We have dedicated an entire blog entry to this interesting subject, you can read it here.

What is a full spectrum CBD oil? What does full spectrum mean in this context?2018-12-10T14:59:03+00:00

Our Cannexol products, especially our oils are organic hemp seed oils mixed with natural, full spectrum CBD extract. A full spectrum CBD extract contains a large number of cannabinoids as well as phytochemicals and vital substances. More specifically, in addition to natural cannabinoids, the extract contains terpenes, flavonoids and antioxidants, which makes it not only more natural, but also of higher quality than pure crystalline CBD.

What does CO2 extraction mean?2018-09-17T11:52:26+00:00

CO2 extraction is the most gentle, residue-free and most effective way to extract plant material, in our case CBD. The solvent is CO2. It evaporates completely, leaving ingredients of the plants unchanged. What remains is a 100% residue-free hemp extract. An alternative solvent would be e.g. alcohol. However, alcohol does not evaporate completely and traces remain in the extract.
